Suggested Foods for weight loss

First we think it's best to focus on feeling good. Secondly to remind that in order to live a healthy and energetic life in a body that is fit to do that job, attempting to lose weight only will not be the key. There are some other changes you might want to bring into your life. In order to have the cells of your body function properly they have to receive the right nutritious elements and toxins must be kept away from them as much as possible and should be disposed of properly.

The right food can help you eliminate the cravings for late night snacks and snacks in between meals. By adding certain foods to your diet, it will easier to stay slim and healthy without going on a weight loss diet plan.

Round or loin cuts of beef. In a recent study, women that included round or loin cuts of red meat in their diet, lost more weight than those who ate just the same amount of calories and little beef. Look for cuts of beef that are round or loin. After round and loin cuts of beef are trimmed and cooked, they will only contain as few as three grams of fat per 3-oz., which can be easily worked into a low-fat diet.

Eggs. Eating eggs for breakfast will make you feel more fuller so that you won't feel the need to eat more during your next few meals. Eggs contains less than 90 grams of fat and good sources of protein, iron and vitamins A, D, E and B12. When buying eggs, choose eggs from hens that are free range, anti-biotic free, and fed organic food..

Whole grains. Whole grains such as wheat germ, Quinoa, steel cut oats, flax, millet and barley are great sources of food for weight loss. Whole grain will help boost your health because it contains many vitamins and antioxidants. Whole grains are also filling, which can help you in your goal to loss weight because your appetite will decrease.

Goji berries. Goji berries contain nutrients that will help you curb your craving for food in between meals. Nutrients found in Goji berries helps convert food into energy instead of storing it as fat.

Apples Everyone knows an apple a day will keep the doctor away. Apples contain fiber, vitamins, and minerals and are low in calories and fat.

Yogurt. Yogurt helps you curb the need for more food by keeping blood sugar level steady.

Avocados. Avocados can help lower your insulin level, which will make it easier for you to lose weight. Avocados contain a carbohydrate called mannoheptulose that helps lower insulin secretion, which in return, makes it easier to loss weight.

Always remember that all you have to do to reach your ideal weight is eat the right foods combined with of a good regular exercise.

High-fat diet could lead to pancreatic cancer

New research gives evidence that people who consume a high-fat diet are more likely to develop pancreatic cancer, particularly if their dietary fat comes from animal foods, such as meat and dairy products.
The researcher team compiled data on more than a half-million people — 308,736 men and 216,737 women — who took part in the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study. All people in the study filled in a 124-item food questionnaire in 1995 and 1996.

Over an fair follow-up of 6.3 years, 865 men and 472 women were diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic cancer (45.0 and 34.5 cases per 100,000 person-years, respectively).

The National Institutes of Health has found that those who had diets heavy in meat and dairy fats were more likely to develop this deadly disease, which will strike more than 42,000 Americans this year and kill more than 35,000, according to the American Cancer Society.

Pancreatic cancer is almost always lethal, a factor that puts it number four in the top causes of death from cancer in the U.S. Lifestyle, like diet, play an crucial role in determining who is most likely to develop this very fatal form of cancer. Other risk factors include diabetes, obesity, and smoking.

Women were at a lower risk, however a high-fat diet did increase their chances by 23 per cent.

In total, the increase in risk was 36 per cent, the study determined.

Saturated fat from animal food sources especially red meat as well as dairy products were reported as the strongest risk factor for cancer, increasing the risk of pancreatic tumors by 36 percent.

Due to the above research, it's time for us to think twice of having a high fat diet!

ASPARAGUS as a natural weight loss food and cures cancer cell?

Asparagus is high in nutrients, low in calories and a healthy vegetable choice. and good for weight loss.  It is ideal for young women; it's a winner when it comes to folic acid -- a vitamin that helps prevent neural-tube birth defects. Asparagus has two major antioxidants -- beta-carotene and vitamin C. By neutralizing damaging particles in our bodies like smog and cigarette smoke, antioxidants are major contenders in the fight against heart disease, cancer, and cataracts.

I had received below email regarding Asparagus, the author of the same is unknown below story for info……

A  lady had been taking the full-stalk canned style asparagus that she pureed and  she took 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day.  She did this for over a month.  She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung  cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell count went  from 386 down to 125  as of this past week.  Her oncologist said she does not need to see him for 3 months.

 THE ARTICLE:
Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer.  He gave me a  photocopied copy of an  article, entitled, `Asparagus for cancer' printed in Cancer News Journal,   December 1979.

I will share it here, just as it was shared with me:  'I   am a biochemist, and have specialized n the relation of  diet to health for over  50 years..Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of  Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S.  that asparagus might cure cancer..

Since then, I have worked with him on his project.  We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories.  Here are a few examples:

Case No.  1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of  the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated.  Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, is doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case No.  2, a successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years.  After years of medical treatments, including radiation without  improvement, he went on asparagus.  Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case No.  3, a man who had lung cancer.
On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so
widely spread that it was inoperable.  The surgeon sewed him up and declared
his case  hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and  immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared..  He is back at his regular business  routine..

Case No.  4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer.  She finally eveloped different skin cancers which were  diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced.  Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions.  This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her idney disease, which started in 1949.  She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition.  She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.

I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of materia medica', edited in 1854 by a Professor  at the University of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones.  He even referred to  experiments, in 1739, on the  power of sparagus in dissolving stones.  Note the  dates!

We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records.  I am therefore  appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories  that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and  natural remedy.  For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using,  and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.  I have corresponded  with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied  that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives.  Place the cooked  asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the  refrigerator.  Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks.

It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink.  This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.  As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent'.  Based on this theory, my wife  and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals.  We take  2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with  dinner..  I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold.  For years we  have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular  checkups.  The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes  in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing  but the asparagus drink...  As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study  of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed  cures.  As a result, I am  convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about  cancer.  Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which  are believed to be active in controlling cell growth.
For that reason, I  believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I  call cell growth  normalizer.  That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a  general body tonic.  In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we  suggest, is a harmless substance.  The FDA cannot prevent you from using it  and it may do you much good.  It has been reported by the US National  Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing  glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens  and antioxidants.

There is no harm to try the same and prove it yourself. Please spread the news...  the most unselfish act one can ever do is paying forward all the kindness one has received, even to the most undeserved person.

Weight loss tips: the 7 deadly sins of weight loss

1. Inflammatory Foods
The big problem with this one is that you may have no idea that the food you thought was healthy for you is actually killing your weight loss hopes! Seriously, we’ve been led to believe that processed wheat flour is actually a whole grain and is good for us…  processed wheat flour is not your friend when it comes to total health and weight loss.

2. Cardio
The days of doing long distance cardio for an hour to lose weight is super inefficient and is a band-aid approach to getting in shape. It works for a while and then your body adapts, injuries set in, your metabolism drops, and the results stop coming…

3. Mini-Cheats
“Mini-cheats” are what they call cheat meals that sneak in day-in and day-out either without you being aware of them, or thinking that they don’t matter. They do matter and although no single one will make a huge difference the cumulative effect is devastating and leaves you scratching your head trying to figure out why you haven’t lost weight.

4. Stress
Some people could make the argument that stress can actually cause weight loss… and they would be right, but only temporarily. Stress (a hormone) is one of the top reasons people can’t lose weight even when they’re doing everything else right. Stress can come in many forms and in all areas of your life (work, family, friends, sleep, lifestyle, eating, etc) so be on the lookout.

5. Sugar
I’m pretty sure you already guessed that sugar was going to make the list, but did you know it is arguably the most poisoness substance you consume on a daily basis? I’m not exaggerating either… The problem is it’s everywhere! In fruit juices, soda, processed flour (hidden), alcohol, granola… everywhere – yikes!

6. Lack of Sleep
Why lack of sleep you ask? It’s because a lack of sleep heavily contributes to the stress factor we talked about. And if you don’t get enough sleep you’ll be too tired to make positive and healthy decisions like sticking with your nutrition and exercise program. This is a BIG ONE.

7. Fear of Weights
We shock the body by using specific resistance exercises that contribute to more than 30% of their metabolism. You’ll not only create more tone in your muscles, but you’ll prevent the skinny fat look that many runners inherit from wasting away their lean muscle (metabolism).

Do you agree on the above?

Jackson was star the world could not ignore

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Michael Jackson had a level of hero worship on a par with Elvis Presley or the Beatles but he was the first black star to inspire such a massive following around the world.

Michael Jackson, the ultimate showman, craved attention and was rarely disappointed.

Total worldwide sales of more than 350 million records over his 40-year career give just a hint of the adoration there was for the "King of Pop." The fact that his death came on the eve of a comeback tour in London will leave his devotees feeling even more bereft.

While his career -- and wealth -- had waned greatly in recent years, there was still enough support for the concerts to sell out at a rate of nearly 40,000 an hour. Fans from as far afield as Japan, Germany and Dubai queued to buy their tickets.

Steve Greenberg, founder and CEO of S-Curve Records, was a disc jockey in Tel Aviv, Israel, when "Thriller" first dropped and witnessed first-hand how Jackson became an international icon.

His was a global appeal, Greenberg said, among fans and artists worldwide.

"He was as big in the Middle East and Southeast Asia as he was in America and Europe," Greenberg said. "He had that universality that not many people had. The Beatles had it, Muhammad Ali had it, but not many other people have had it."

Jackson was known for far more than his music though. Speaking after his death in Los Angeles was announced, U.S. civil rights campaigner Rev. Al Sharpton paid tribute to the work of a "trailblazer" in helping people around the world through his charities.

Sharpton added that the song Jackson co-wrote with Lionel Richie, "We Are the World," a 1985 charity single that raised an estimated $50 million for famine relief in Africa, ushered in Live Aid and the era of celebrity philanthropy.

Jackson was the supreme showman who had an unrivalled knack of grabbing headlines. From his precocious abilities as the 11-year-old singer in the Jackson 5 to his legendary "moon-walk" dance, the star craved attention, and was rarely disappointed.

But in the years after his colossal 1982 hit album "Thriller" and its 1987 follow-up "Bad," much of the focus did not cast him in a good light.

In 1996 the lead singer of Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, caused a furor at the Brit Awards in London when he invaded the stage during Jackson's performance of "Earth Song" in protest "at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing."

Jackson failed to see the humor in Cocker's mockery, responding that he was "sickened, saddened, shocked, upset, cheated, angry" by the protest. He also alleged that Cocker had attacked children on stage, something that the Pulp singer denied. But many in the music industry backed Cocker, who was arrested but later released without charge.

The theme of children was one that continued to haunt Jackson. In 2002 he caused a public outcry by dangling his baby son Prince Michael II from a third-floor hotel balcony in Germany before the world's press. He later said he regretted the incident.

And in a 2003 interview with British journalist Martin Bashir that was supposed to repair his image around the world, the singer revived allegations of child abuse when he said of sharing a bed with a young boy: "It's a beautiful thing. It's very right, it's very loving. Because what's wrong with sharing a love?"

A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of sexually molesting 12-year-old Gavin Arvizo. Jackson surrendered himself to police amid a media furor.

In the 2005 trial conducted in the glare of the world's media spotlight, Jackson was cleared of child molestation charges. Following the trial, Jackson's finances took a hit and he was forced to sell his Neverland ranch in California.

He later kept a low profile in the United States and spent time in Britain, where his friends included psychic spoonbender Uri Geller and Harrod's owner Mohamed Al Fayed, and also in Bahrain.

But in November last year, Jackson was sued by an Arab sheikh at the High Court in London for $7.7 million. They parted "amicably" after agreeing a settlement.

Jackson had been invited with his children and entourage to Bahrain by the king's son, Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who lavished money on Jackson and built a recording studio, which he believed would be used to record albums by Jackson using material the sheikh had helped to write.

But Jackson insisted there was no valid agreement and that the sheikh's case was based on "mistake, misrepresentation and undue influence." He said sums of money paid out by the sheikh were "gifts."

Surely so many fans are now in grief on Michael Jackson’s lost and nobody can ever replace him with his contribution to the music industry.

High-fibre diets may reduce calcium

High-fibre diets may slightly reduce calcium levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Researchers from America studied 13 patients with type 2 diabetes to investigate the effect of high levels of fibre on mineral balance. They compared the effects of a 6-week high-fibre (50g total and 25g soluble fibre) diet and a 6-week moderate-fibre diet (24g total and 8g soluble) on mineral absorption and metabolism in all the participants. Intestinal calcium absorption, stool weight and mineral content were assessed for 3 days, and 24-h urinary mineral content and serum chemistry were assessed over 5 days at the end of each phase.

It was found that calcium levels in the urine and, to a lesser extent, the blood were significantly reduced in subjects given the high-fibre diet. Calcium absorption in the intestines was also slightly reduced.

The experts suggested that high-fibre diets offer many advantages to patients with diabetes and thus should be prescribed. These include bowel regularity, reduction in LDL (bad) cholesterol, and improvement in (blood sugar) control. Instead of using processed fibre, patients should be advised to increase dietary fibre by consuming natural fruit, grains, and vegetables.

The researchers concluded that high-fibre diets can help improve blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels in diabetics, but it is important that the diet is rich in soluble fibre as well as in calcium. Otherwise, patients may need to take calcium supplements.

Fibre is an important component of maintaining a healthy digestive system, weight and immune system. High-fibre diets have been shown to help protect against heart disease and control blood sugar levels and may provide protection against cancer.

Eating a high-fibre cereal or drinking prune juice are the excellent ways of staying fit.  What about you are you getting enough fibre?

Vinegar May Assist In Weight Loss?

By Brian Allen

Summer officially started this weekend.

Some of us are trying to fit into our summer clothes... we take a look at something you probably have in your kitchen right now... that could help you keep your weight down.

Ordinary Vinegar!

That's right.

The stuff you find in salad dressings, pickles and other common food items may be the ultimate tummy trimmer.

According to Japanese researchers... there's new evidence that vinegar can help prevent accumulation of body fat which causes weight gain.

Scientists in next month's issue of the "Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry" reported that lab mice who were fed a high-fat diet and given acetic acid... the element that gives Vinegar its sour taste and strong smell... developed up to 10 percent less body fat than mice who were not given the acid.

Investigators discovered acetic acid fights fat by turning on genes in the body that make proteins which break down fats... keeping them from accumulating in the regions where fats accumulate... such as the tummy, backside and thighs.

But don't go guzzling this pungent liquid just yet.

Results have only been reported in animals.

So friends don’t take chances yet, we need to wait for firm confirmation from  the Japanese researchers.

5 Diet Tips To Improve Your Mood

By Margaret Furtado, M.S., R.D.
Depression affects millions of Americans each year, with 2 to 3 times as many women as men diagnosed between the ages of 25 to 44. Although depression is common, treatment options vary, and many people may need medication and/or therapy.

It is believed that either psychological or physiological factors can cause depression. The physiological factors of depression may be linked to the "monoamine hypothesis," which stems from the belief that imbalances of chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, epinephrine, and nor-epinephrine, may be to blame.

Some vitamin and mineral deficiencies may not only worsen depression in certain people, but research shows they may be the sole cause in others. Although correcting dietary deficiencies may help you feel less blue, I wouldn't advise anyone to stop their medications or therapy, unless directed to do so by their doctor. But paying attention to what you eat is good for both your brain and your body.

These tips are based on the most current research. Try them out and discover how eating a little bit smarter can improve your mood.

1. Carbohydrates. Carbs are involved in serotonin production, a chemical that helps you feel calmer. So a low-carb diet can leave you feeling irritable and edgy, especially since the brain needs a constant supply of blood sugar to function well. Studies have shown low blood sugar to be very common in people with depression. I recommend choosing healthy carbohydrates, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (vs. cake, candy, or donuts), and eating 5-6 smaller meals, each with at least 15 grams of carbohydrate--the amount found in a medium apple or pear.

2. Omega 3 fatty acids. The human brain is 60 percent fat. Some experts believe that fish containing omega-3 fatty acids (e.g., salmon, mackerel, and tuna) help fight depression because brain neurotransmitters move more easily through fat membranes that are composed of omega-3 fats. Fish may also increase serotonin levels, to help you feel more relaxed.

3. B vitamins. Many of the B vitamins have a role in the functioning of neurotransmitters. Research reveals that up to one third of people with depression may have a diet deficient in folic acid, leading to low serotonin levels in the brain. Additionally, a vitamin B6 deficiency may leave you feeling depressed and anxious. Depression may also be linked to a deficiency in thiamin (B1); an untreated thiamin deficiency can lead to irreversible nerve damage, as can a B12 deficiency. Supplemental B vitamins may be helpful, especially if your diet is lacking.

4. Tryptophan. This essential amino acid (a building block of protein that the body can't make) is a precursor to serotonin production. Contrary to popular belief, turkey is not the highest source of tryptophan--the sleepy feeling after Thanksgiving's meal may have more to do with alcohol or overeating than the turkey meat. Great sources of tryptophan include chocolate, oats, bananas, milk, cottage cheese, and mangoes. Not that you need it, but you have my full permission to indulge in some chocolate--preferably dark for the antioxidants--as long as there's no reason why you can't enjoy this serotonin-loaded treat!

5. Minerals. It's estimated that most Americans don't get enough magnesium in their diet, and low levels have been found in people with depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Another mineral, manganese, may contribute to depression if your levels are low due to subsequently decreased amounts of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine.

A healthy, balanced meal plan and supplementation, such as B vitamins and/or minerals (check with your doctor and dietitian regarding your particular needs), combined with regular physical activity and a stress reduction program might help keep you from singing the blues.

I’m pretty sure that every time we are having our different “diets” our mood varies on it.

The Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit Diet is a weight loss diet built solely around the humble grapefruit. Grapefruit contains enzymes that make our body burn fat for energy, resulting in quick and easy weight loss.

The grapefruit diet, also known as the Hollywood diet and erroneously as the Mayo Clinic Diet, is a short-term fad diet that has existed in the United States since at least the 1930s.

Specifics of the diet vary widely, but it usually involves eating half a grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice with each meal and significantly reducing caloric intake, often to below 800 calories per day.  There is some research that shows eating half a grapefruit with meals three times each day can help people lose small amounts of weight, about three or four pounds in 12 weeks. However, there's a big difference between eating grapefruit within an overall healthy, balanced diet  vs. following the standard grapefruit diet, which is not  recommend for anyone.

Eat grapefruit at every meal. Dieter has the choice of eating 1/2 a grapefruit or drinking 8 ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice and the enzyme is touted to burn away body fat. This diet plan does not allow most complex carbs. Consumption of most vegetables is encouraged and dieter are allowed to prepare them in generous amounts of butter. Consumption of coffee or tea is allowable.

Low Carb Diet Side Effects

Provided By: Associated Content, Inc.

Many people curious about starting a low carb diet wonder if there are side effects they need to be aware of before getting started. Many also wonder if there are harmful low carb diet side effects too, so let's look at the most common side effects of low carb dieting, and talk about whether any of these are harmful.

Some of these low carb diet side effects can be problematic for people with health conditions, particularly if they're taking medications for those conditions.

Often the side effects are good, but you need to be aware they can happen and talk to your medical care provider because they'll need to monitor your progress and possibly change, reduce, or eliminate medications as you progress.

For instance, a very common low carb diet side effect is lowered, or more even blood sugar levels. This is an important low carb diet side effect for any diabetic, particularly ones that take insulin shots or medication. Since low carb diets can drastically reduce your blood sugar levels naturally, your doctor may need to adjust your medication levels to compensate for those changes.

Another low carb diet side effect is of course losing a lot of weight. This by itself is not technically a side effect, but related effects of losing weight can include regulation of blood pressure, easing or disappearance of digestive tract problems, and resolution of breathing problems too.

If you're taking high blood pressure medication, then the side effect of having that lowered from eating a low carb diet will need to be addressed by your doctor or medical care specialist. The same applies for digestive troubles, if you experience resolution to those problems as a low carb dieting side effect, your doctor will need to adjust or eliminate the medications you take.

Now if you don't take medications for conditions such as those listed above, you may still experience low carb diet side effects, but they're likely to be ones you're happy to have.

Common, "good" low carb diet side effects include reduced cravings for sugars and starches; increased energy; reduced bloated and gassy, upset stomach feelings; improved bowel movements; regulated blood sugar levels and blood pressure levels; loss of excess water retention; and of course, loss of excess body fat.

There are some low carb diet side effects that are not harmful, but you need to be aware of them because they are uncomfortable at best. These low carb diet side effects are more common during the first one to five days on the diet, and are side effects of your body adjusting to your eating changes. These side effects can include headaches; nausea; dizziness; lethargy or low energy; severe sugar cravings; irritability; and constipation.

There are also a couple of women specific low carb diet side effects. In the first week or two of your new low carb diet, you may experience oddities with your monthly menstrual flow. Usually this side effect lasts a short time though, and is caused by your body adjusting to the new eating lifestyle you've chosen. A great low carb diet side effect comes later: Women's menstrual flow is usually reduced, and there is generally much less pain or other problems involved while you're on a low carb diet.

Many of those early low carb diet side effects can be reduced by drinking extra water and getting plenty of rest, plus making sure you don't go hungry. In rare cases these initial low carb diet side effects can last as long as ten days, but usually they're present from approximately the third to the fifth day of your low carb diet.

Now we are aware that low carb diet has a side effect as well and drinking more water will lessen the side effects caused by our low carb diet.

The Abs Diet Benefits and Drawbacks

By: Shannon Clark

One popular diet that is currently circulating around North America, touted by the well-read magazine, "Men's Health", is the Ab's Diet. This diet claims to flatten your stomach in six weeks and help you stay lean for life. Does it live up to its claim? You be the judge.

The diet was created by the Men's Health editor, David Zinczenko, and is backed up by celebrities such as The Rock. They claim that it is not another fad diet but one you can live with for the rest of your life. Given that most people who go on fad diets give up after only a few measly weeks, this is a critical part of any diet that hopes to be successful.
The diet also states that by following it, you will learn 12 magical foods that strip away fat, learn how to turn fat into muscle, look and feel younger, supercharge your sex life and live pain free.

While your diet can definitely help you look and feel younger as well as play a role in your sex drive and pain management, no diet is going to 'turn fat into muscle' - that is a process that simply does not happen. You may lose fat and build muscle but again, food alone won't make a conversion of tissue occur.

Their claim that you will lose 12 pounds of fat in two weeks is a little bit of an exaggeration also as in reality, this is close to impossible. Nothing short of starvation would have you losing twelve pounds of fat in two weeks as for this to occur, you'd have to be at a caloric deficit of 3000 calories per day.

Considering most people do not need this many calories to even maintain their weight, starving all day wouldn't create a big enough deficit to make this a reality. So in that regard, right off the bat, this diet will not entirely back up its claim.
What Can You Eat On The Diet?

One good thing that the diet does do is stress the importance of including healthy foods in the diet often and leaving the less healthy ones to having only on occasion. It does not forbid whole entire food groups off the menu or make you become a calorie counting machine. For many people, this approach works well since it is not so strict as some of the other approaches they may have tried in the past.

The foods that are known to be the "Power 12" on the diet that you should be eating as much as possible include:
1.    Almonds and other nuts
2.    Beans and legumes
3.    Spinach and green veggies
4.    Low fat or fat free dairy
5.    Instant Oatmeal (note that slow cooking oatmeal would be a better option here)
6.    Turkey/other lean meats
7.    Peanut butter
8.    Olive oil
9.    Eggs
10.    Whole Grain Cereal
11.    Whey Protein Powder
12.    Raspberries and other Berries

The foods that they describe as ones you should 'eat often' include:
•    Apples
•    Asparagus
•    Avocados
•    Bananas
•    Brown Rice
•    Canadian Bacon
•    Canola Oil
•    Citrus Fruits and Juices
•    Low Sugar fruit juice
•    Lean Game
•    Garlic
•    Lentils
•    Mushrooms
•    Melons
•    Peach
•    Peanut Oil
•    Peas
•    Peppers
•    Pizza
•    Popcorn
•    Shellfish
•    Soup
•    Sunflower Seeds
•    Sweet Potatoes

Then the 'eat occasionally' foods include:
•    Baked Potatoes
•    Light Beer
•    Butter
•    Chocolate
•    Coffee
•    Lamb
•    Lasagne
•    Lunchmeat
•    Margarine
•    Nuts
•    Pudding
•    French Fries
•    Graham Crackers
•    Granola
•    Ham
•    Ice Cream (low fat)
•    Jams
•    Pork Tenderloin
•    Sauerkraut
•    Rice
•    Sorbet

And lastly, the foods they recommend you try and avoid include:

So as you can see, the Ab's diet does have pretty good recommendations in terms of which foods should be the mainstay of your diet and which should be avoided.

In terms of muscle building this diet does likely work as it doesn't eliminate carbohydrates, which do tend to make gaining muscle easier.

For fat loss though, due to the fact that it doesn't specify calorie levels or how much protein, carbs or fat to consume, it won't be quite as reliable as a diet that does. Anyway you look at it, when it comes to fat loss, calorie counting is how you lose weight.

You must be sure you are taking in fewer calories than you burn regardless of the types of foods you are eating so any diet that does not track this will not be as successful as a diet that does.

In all regards though, by choosing many of the foods recommended on this diet you likely will be eating fairly low calorie and will feel much healthier because they are quite nutrient dense.

Probably the highlighting factor of this diet that puts it above others in regards to actual food selection is that it does not cut out any specific food groups. For most people, this is something they are looking for. Not everyone has the desire to eliminate carbs entirely from their plan or go on some super low fat diet. This is a much more well-rounded approach.

I wouldn't say the diet completely lives up to all of its claims, in fact likely no diet would live up the claims it makes, so just be cautioned that you aren't expecting too much when beginning it.
Bottomline on all diets that we plan to take the self discipline plays an important role to achieve our goals.

How to Survive a Low Carb Diet

Provided By: Associated Content, Inc.

Eating plans like South Beach and the Ab Diet can help you lose weight, improve your cardiovascular health and ward off health conditions like diabetes. Unfortunately, they are notoriously difficult to stick to.

These hints can help you survive and thrive while staying low-carb.

Know what you are allowed

Be sure to read your plan thoroughly before starting any diet. On low-carb diets, some traditional "health foods" are restricted. On phase one of South Beach, for example, even fruits like apples and oranges are forbidden.

Don't sabotage your weight loss efforts - know what you are allowed to eat and what should be kept out of the house.

Arm yourself with recipes

Who wants to eat the same boring food everyday? Give yourself the best chance of success by investing in some cookbooks associated with your diet plan. If money is tight, check with your local library. Even if they don't have what you need, most will be happy to order it through an interlibrary exchange.

Try as many recipes as possible and keep a file of your favorites. Try to find at least one recipe for something sweet, one for traditional comfort food, something quick and something fancy. With these minimums, you'll be prepared for whatever culinary mood strikes.

Find support

Enlist your family to help you try new recipes and foods, or go on the diet with a friend. This will help you feel more accountable, and perhaps cause you to think twice before sneaking a contraband donut!

If you prefer a smidgen of anonymity with your diet, find an online message board. Internet support groups can be a great place to ask questions, find new recipes, and celebrate your success.

Stock your kitchen

Fill your panty and refrigerator with high quality foods that are both appealing and diet-friendly. Check with your specific plan, but some ideas for a low-carb kitchen include:
• broccoli
• cheese sticks
• shrimp
• chicken breasts
• broth
• cauliflower
• black beans
• milk
• turkey bacon
• steak
• fish
• lentils
• green beans
• sour cream
• ricotta
• cottage cheese

Have a secret weapon

Have a "go-to" food that is quick to make, satisfying and low carb. This might be string cheese, raw vegetables, ricotta mixed with artificial sweetener and cinnamon, or a sugar-free fudgecicle.

Be prepared

Can't pass up that drive-thru window at the local fast food joint? Pack yourself some low-carb snacks and treat yourself to a diet soda instead.

An easy way to stay prepared is to simple cook an extra serving of dinner every night. Pack the leftovers in an appropriate container and stick it in your backpack or briefcase. For added convenience, take the time to cut up your food.

If you are the creative type, learn some techniques to arrange your food Bento-style. Your coworkers will envy your cute, low-carb lunches.

Find a few restaurants that offer diet-friendly choices so that you don't have to deny yourself some special nights out. When at restaurants, don't be afraid to ask how food is prepared or for substitutions.

Stretch yourself

While you are on a low-carb diet, odds are you won't be able to enjoy all of your old favorites. Instead of lamenting the loss of your potato chips and ice cream, try to find some new favorites. Even if you've always hated cheese, for example, once you've broken your addiction to carbohydrates you may find yourself loving the creamy sharpness of a good cheddar. Experiment with sauces and add-ins to spice up a simple chicken stir-fry. Learn some new cooking techniques that don't rely on flour and breading.

A low-carb diet doesn't have to be boring or torturous. Be prepared, try some new things, and enjoy losing weight and improving your health.

Hmm the above article is very interesting to our friends out there who are having difficulty to follow their low carbs diets.

Low Carb Diets Are They Right For You?

Author: Lee Wharton
Low carb diets are mostly based on cutting the amount of carbs you eat and increasing the amount of proteins and fats. This diet helps your body to consume fat reserves that are already in your body. Low carb diets are still popular and while they may help the average individual lose weight, they aren't for athletes.

Low carb diets are not only safe, but if followed properly, can be heart-healthy. Low carb diets have several good effects on cholesterol. Low carb diets are designed to prevent blood sugar levels from spiking and causing the overproduction of insulin a hormone that helps convert carbohydrates to body fat. The first carbohydrates you need to add back to your diet when you move beyond Induction are more vegetables, then seeds and nuts, then berries and then if you are still losing legumes and grains. Low carb diets are easy for people who enjoy meats and cheese, but it may be tough for a vegetarian to go on a low carb diet.

Low-carb dieters dropped an average of 26 pounds, compared to an average of 14 pounds shed by the low-fat group. The low-carb group had decreases in blood fat levels and increases in good cholesterol than their counterparts on a low-fat diet. Low-carb diets are very popular for their quick results.

Low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat diets (such as the Atkins diet) have become very popular in recent years. These diets promise weight loss, weight maintenance, good health, and disease prevention. Low-carb dieters should also be aware that low-carbohydrate and low-calorie are not the same thing, just as low-fat and low-calorie are not synonymous. When something, like carbohydrates, is taken out of a product, (e.g., chips, ice cream or chocolate candy bars) other things are added to replace it

Carbohydrates are not bad, only some of them are, and should be eaten in moderation. Finally, there is the personalized metabolic typing diet, which is using your body's intuition to determine the best combination of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates for your optimal health. Carbohydrates are found in almost any kind of food, even vegetables -- not just bread and pasta. Carbohydrates including bread, pasta, rice, cereals, milk, most fruit and any sweets usually provide over half of people's daily calories. On a low-carb diet, however, carbohydrates are limited or avoided, thus leading to a significant reduction in calorie intake.

Low-carbohydrate diets probably result in weight loss by forcing your body to burn fat for energy. The body would rather burn carbohydrates- either from blood sugar or stored carbohydrates in your liver and muscles. Low-carbohydrate diets are essentially very simple. By restricting carbohydrate intake, cravings for carbohydrates will over time subside, resulting in a lower food consumption and weight loss.

The above article proved that Low carb diets plays an important role on weight loss programs.
