All About Diets......

Hmmm....before we start what do we mean by diet? sometimes my colleague is asking me, what's your food today, and I will reply I'm on a diet, I won't eat!

Well according to Answers.com a diet is a pattern of food consumption which is followed by a population or an individual. To maintain life, all diets must supply the essential amounts of energy,protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, but these needs can be met by a wide variety of diets, each of which will be sufficient for growth, survival, and reproduction but may also have obvious or subtle effects on the long-term state of health.
We heard a lot of different diets, like Dr. Atkins Diet, Complex Carb Diets, Cholesterol-Lowering Diet,Vegetarian Diet, Detoxification Diet, Weight Loss Diet Plan, South Beach Diet, Green Tea Diet...and I still have to check for other kinds of it.....
"The Atkins Diet" is a high protein weight loss diet which emphasises the benefits of high protein foods and the dangers of carbohydrates. The Atkins diet has been unfairly painted as an "all cheeseburgers, no vegetables" plan. True, the early "induction" phase (2 weeks) drastically restricts carbohydrate consumption - a few leafy greens and no fruit - but then more carbs are allowed. So within 6 months you may end up eating a reasonable amount of carbohydrates, even though the diet counsels you to avoid certain carb-foods, like white breads, white potatoes, and white rice, forever.
Complex carbohydrates, or polysaccharides, are made mostly of long strands of simple sugars. They are found in grains, fruits, legumes (peas and beans), and other vegetables. Complex carbohydrates include three types of dietary fiber - cellulose, hemicellulose and gums - and starches.

Detoxification (Detox), is the removal of potentially toxic substances from the body. Although detox is primarily thought of as a treatment for alcohol or drug dependence, the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health. This is a sample two-week detox diet plan to support detoxification by increasing elimination from the body, cleansing the colon, enhancing circulation to clear toxic substances, eliminating foods from the diet that require detoxification or are allergenic, and providing nutrients to support and protect the liver, the main organ involved in detoxification.

The South Beach Diet is a doctor-designed low-carb weight loss plan. The diet is split into 3 phases. You eat normal portion sizes In Phase 1, but all carbohydrate are restricted. This is the strictest phase in the diet and will last for two weeks. It emphasizes lean meats, such as chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Low-Glycemic-index vegetables are allowed as well as low-fat cheese, nuts, eggs. Dieters should expect to lose somewhere between 8 to 12 pounds. Phase 3 is for maintenance and should be followed for life.
